After reviewing Garde at the ProvidenceG in an earlier post, I knew I had to check out all of the other aspects that the Providence G has to offer. If you are familiar with the city of Providence, you’re aware that the G is a luxury apartment building located in the heart of Downtown Providence. However, did you know that they own and operate three restaurants as well?! Clearly I chose the wrong building to live in!
Garde at the ProvidenceG is located directly underneath the apartments on the corner of Dorrance street, the GPub is located underground, and lastly, the Rooftop is…well I think you can figure it out…
This was a special night. I jumped out of my seat when I received an email about reviewing the Rooftop. It couldn’t have been a better time with a high of 85 degrees and low of 60. Our meal was accompanied by a perfect breeze and a cozy atmosphere.
It’s usually our tradition to toast to something special and relevant before devouring our food. Every meal should start with a cheers! (I think my boyfriend hates me for testing his patience with food pics).
Our drinks were as follows:
(Left) Cucumber Cooler: Hendricks Gin, St. Germain, Fresh Lime, Cucumbers, Tonic Water
(Right) Prickly Pear Margarita: Maestro Dobel Tequila, Prickly Pear Puree, Cointreau, Fresh Lime, Sour Mix
First bite: From the raw bar. Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail. These shrimp are bigger than the size of my fist. You have to see them to believe them. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such large little guys. “Shrimp” is definitely an oxymoron!
Next: Artisanal Cheese Board. Selection of cheeses: Hard Cheese-Parmesan, Crumbled Cheese- Bleu, Soft & Creamy- Brie. Fruits included blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and red and green apples. Crispy brioche slices were available to hold it all together (and create mini sandwiches).
The close-up picture is used to show the honey glaze on the cheese and apples. Sauces and extra flavors were created by Ligonberry Jam and a Honey Glaze. Last but not least, there was a nutty addition of hazelnuts to the board.
To compliment the Cheese: More mini brioche toasts accompanied by a spicy mustard. Meats included: (all pork) Buttery- Prosciutto, Dry – Capicola, Bold-Salami Piccante. Also on the platter were assorted sweet and spicy pickled vegetables such as cornichons, peppers, olives, and more!
In the indoor part of the Rooftop, there are a few VIP sections. You can request these in advance and order bottle service to your comfy couch while catching up with friends, family, and coworkers! I love the patio furniture and other decor that really makes the Rooftop feel comfortably chic.
Outdoor options: As you can see, there are enough seats to invite all of your closest peers. The Rooftop also hosts private parties and events if you are interested. Reservations are not required, but it fills up fast!
Did you know that the Rooftop at the G is the ONLY rooftop lounge and restaurant in the city of Providence? The special heated glass feature allows the structure to be open all year round, allowing you to enjoy the city skyline views no matter what time of year.
A meal with a view: Depending on your preference, you can either eat inside at a high top table near the kitchen, at the long bar near the TVs, or in the middle of the Rooftop on a private couch. For large or intimate crowds, you can also have your meal outside around a massive fire pit.
Being seven stories high calls for unbelievable views. You can see great Providence landmarks such as Johnson & Wales University, the Superman building, and even the haunted Biltmore Hotel- depending on which side of the roof you are on.
My date for the evening, and luckily every other day too, enjoying the raging flames produced by one of many fire pits available. Side note: It’s extremely wonderful to meet someone who enjoys eating just as much as you do.
The Rooftop is a truly remarkable place and I would recommend it to anyone. Whether you need a quick bite, a few drinks, or even just a comfortable place to catch up, the Rooftop is perfect for you.
